Use project labels to segment (group), filter, and sort your projects.
Here are a few examples:
If your organization does commercial work, you may want to apply labels to your projects to group by classifications such as Standard Industrial Classification codes (aka ‘SIC Codes'), or sub-categories like Corporate, Retail, Mixed-Use, Industrial, Civil, Cultural, Hospitality, Entertainment, Health & Sciences, Education, etc.
Or, if your organization does work in residential or multi-family, you may want to segment your projects to group by type of work such as New Construction, Remodel, Kitchen, Bathroom, Media Room, Garage, Decks & patios, etc.
There are five (5) geographic regions in the United States - Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest and West. But perhaps your organization just does business in a single Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). You could use labels such as Central Lowlands, Appalachian Plateaus, Ridge and Valley, New England, Piedmont, and Atlantic Coastal Plain.
When it comes to labels, other than keeping them unique/distinct, there really isn’t a right or wrong way to use them. Create labels that make sense to your teammates. The examples above illustrate three different categories of labels. Keep in mind, you aren’t limited to just one category. You can apply multiple labels to a project which can be useful information to users in just a glance.
