Explanation

Project
(*aka: “Job”. Can be renamed to fit your organization’s nomenclature)

Project tasks are typically tasks performed for the project as a whole. For example, when you are awarded a project, there’s typically a single contract. So, you might have a task to “Review Contract”. The contract might stipulate that your organization enroll in a OCIP or CCIP Wrap Insurance, so you might have a “Project” task to “Enroll in OCIP/CCIP”.

Phase
(*aka: “Release”, “Work Order”, “Scope”. Can be renamed to fit your organization’s nomenclature)

Projects quite often have multiple phases. Leverage the power of Crows Nest’s Phase Templates to add common, recurring workflows to each phase to drive efficiencies. For example, let’s say you’re producing cabinets. Common tasks might be “Panel Saw”, “Edgeband”, “Boring”, “Cabinet Assembly”, and “Clean and Wrap”. Organizing these tasks and their dependencies into a templated workflow, allows you to quickly get tasks into employee’s queues. Mitigate wasted time by triggering the next task to begin when its predecessor is completed. Notifications let those that need to know, that the task has been completed.

Business

Your Businesses in Crows Nest will likely consist of customers, vendors, distributors, etc. Perhaps you want to setup tasks to remind you to “Get Updated Price List” or schedule a recurring “Quarterly Business Review”.

Contact

Create tasks to remind you of special dates such as birthdays and anniversaries.

Drawing

“Create Shop Drawings” and “Create As-Built Drawings” are certainly two quintessential tasks.

Change Order

Before a determination to approve or reject a change-order-request can be made, someone must “Evaluate the impact”. Once the impact to scope, schedule, and costs have been assessed, options identified, and an internal determination that you’re willing to make the change, it’s probably a good idea to have a task assigned to someone to “Send COR to Customer” (sponsor, or some other stakeholder) for approval or rejection.

Employee

Whether it’s a new hire, or a tenured employee, there’s almost always some onboarding, orientation, training, or certification tasks that they’ll need to complete.

Issue

The default Issue Types are “Field”, “Shop”, and “Misc”. However, you can add additional types, rename existing, or delete any you don’t want to use. So, there’s endless possibilities. An example of a task for a “Field” Issue might be to “Order Materials” for a product defect or rework, due to a damaged product.

  1. Click the ‘Task Type’ to open the drop-down menu with the available task types.

*Crows Nest uses the terms “Project” and “Phase” by default. However, many organizations refer to a “Project” as a “Job”, and a “Phase” as a “Work Order”, “Scope”, or “Scope-of-Work”. You can rename or ‘Alias’, each of these by going to Settings->Options and selecting the “Project” tab or “Phase” tab, respectively.
