Installing client app on a new machine

Intended for licensed users who want to install Crows Nest client app on a new desktop or laptop computer.

Take note of the version dates for the client and database. These must match those being used throughout the shop to avoid database incompatibility. There are always two versions available for download, the latest pre-release (CrowsNestSetup.zip) and the most recent stable release (CrowsNestSetup.msi_-1.zip). Other versions are archived and must be requested.


Installation

Make sure the new version is the same that is installed on your system.

 

  1. Find the location of your installation file. You can log into CN on any station with a user that has permissions to open Settings-->Options.

  2. Open Settings-->Options and on the first tab there is a setting named ‘Install File Location’ that will show you where the file should be located, it will be name CrowsNestSetup.msi

  3. Use that file to install on the laptop.

  4. Configure the connection on the laptop to point at the server and database.

    1. To get the settings from another workstation

      1. Open CN on a working station and get to the Login window. If the station automatically logs in, then click Logout on the tool bar to log back out to the Login window.

      2. Click the Connections button to expand the Login window

      3. Right-click on the connection you’re using in the Connections list on the upper right of the Login window

      4. Copy the Server and Database settings, also copy the License Key below the Connections list

    2. To enter the settings on a new workstation

      1. Open CN on the new station

      2. Click the Connections button to expand the Login window

      3. Right-click on the default Connection in the list of Connections on the upper right of the login window

      4. Enter the Server and Database settings, then click OK

      5. Enter the License Key, and either click Register Machine to hold onto a license for that machine, or don’t and you will use a floating seat that will require you to connect to our license server each time the app is opened.

      6. Click the Connections button again to collapse the Login window

    3. Attempt to login to verify the connection is working
