Desktop App Login Error Messages

Unsuccessful logins on the desktop app will display an error message indicating why the user was not able to login.

See the list of possible errors below with more information on why the login was unsuccessful to help in troubleshooting.

Connection Error Messages

The following messages are related to invalid connections or credentials.

  • Invalid Database Format - The database specified in the connection could not be validated as a Crows Nest database.

  • Incompatible Database Version - The DB Version of the client app is not compatible with the DB Version of the database. See this link for more information regarding installing updates to ensure the versions of the clients and database are in sync.

  • Database Connection is Invalid - the server and/or database specified in the connection was unreachable or invalid. A popup error may also appear with more specific information.

  • Database Update in Progress - a database update has been started on the server and has not yet completed. Wait until the update is finished and try again. If you’ve waited for the update to finish, and are still experiencing this error, see this page for solution.

  • Error Occurred - An unexpected error has occurred and an error window should popup with more information.

Credential Error Messages

The following messages are related to invalid user or machine credentials

  • Username is invalid - entered username does not match a screen name of any employees in the database.

  • Password is invalid - entered password does not match the entered username.

  • User Account Disabled - login is not enabled for user logging in. Enable the "Can Login" setting on the "Employee" record.

  • Machine or User Denied Access - the current PC or User has been prevented from logging in. For more information on how to fix this issue, visit this page.

Licensing Error Messages

The following login errors are related to issues with the license. See this link for more information on managing seat licenses. Contact support@crowsnestsoftware.com for assistance with license issues.

  • All Seats are Taken - There are no license seats available for the user.

  • Version Exceeds License - The client version installed is newer than the maximum version allowed for the entered license key.

  • License Expired - The license key entered has expired and is no longer valid for any version.

  • Invalid License Key - The license key entered could not be validated.

  • Error Returned from License Server - An internal error has occurred on the license server. Try the connection again and contact Support if it problem persists.

  • Error Contacting License Server - the license server could not be reached.
